The UK needs 30,000 hectares of trees every year to reach our climate targets. In fact the world needs more trees – all our climate goals rely on “negative emissions” and trees are the best machines going.
Pietro Carpena, Lead Technical Advisor at Tree Aid, will talk about his organisation’s tree planting activities in Africa including The Great Green Wall, which aims to stop the Sahara Desert spreading down through the continent.
Nikki Jones, Chair of Avon Needs Trees, a local charity that is purchasing land in the Bristol-Avon catchment area to reforest will also be talking about ANT’s first purchase of 34 acres near Chippenham. She will explain all the many benefits of reforesting in the region.
This pre-Christmas event will be a fundraiser for the two charities – come and have a mince pie and a glass of wine and listen to some good news stories. Donations are welcome!
Clifton Climate Action will be hosting the event at Clifton Library. Doors will open at 7 and the event itself will start at 7:30. This is a free event and all are welcome.
