Flying Scotsman and the Golden Age of Steam

March 29, 2023 at 7:00 pm 9:00 pm

Flying Scotsman and Golden Age of Steam – Small is Beautiful – 60′

Flying Scotsman, the world’s most famous steam locomotive celebrates its centenary this year, and on Sunday April 30th it is coming to Bristol.

To mark both events we are putting on three illustrated talks by David Parker. This is the first film; The Golden Age of Steam – Small is Beautiful. Narrow gauge railways were once the workhorses of Britain’s industry. As road transport and lorries took their place some enthusiasts began to save what the scrap heaps had missed. This film uses some of the wonderful home movies they shot to celebrate their dedication in rescuing a part of Britain’s past that could have been forgotten forever.

The second film; Golden Age of Steam – Branching Out is on 5th April and the final film on 19th April is Flying Scotsman with Robson Green.

David Parker will talk about the making of all three films at each screening and this, the first event (The Golden Age of Steam – Small is Beautiful60′) will start at 7pm with the bar opening at 6.30.
