Join us for the first illustrated talk by David Parker of 2024; The magic of ‘home’ movies. World War Two, fascism in Europe, Civil War in Spain, the Holocaust, Nuclear Weapons. Just some of the seismic forces that shaped people’s lives in the last century. Yet even in those remarkable times, people ordinary life carried on and some brilliant home movie makers captured those lives on film. From the 1930s to the 1960s they filmed everything, from moments of everyday life, to moments of unbelievable drama; from the horrors of the Blitz, to the thrill of the Beatles; from time at work in the countryside, to time off work by the seaside. Be bewitched, surprised and delighted at some of the films that David Parker has been collecting over the years that showcase some outstanding amateur movie makers.
