2023 marks the 50th year of the iconic women’s publishing house, Virago.

Lennie Goodings is Chair of Virago Press. Her authors include among others, Margaret Atwood, Maya Angelou, Sarah Waters, Natasha Walter, Linda Grant, Joan Bakewell, Sandi Toksvig and Marilynne Robinson. She is Canadian and has been in London and with Virago since the late 1970s; working with authors and books are her passion. She won The Bookseller’s Award for Editor and Imprint of the Year in 2010 and a Lifetime’s Achievement at London’s Women of the World Festival in 2018. Her book A Bite of the Apple: A Life with Books, Writers and Virago, is published by OUP. In this discussion with Virago author, Helen Taylor, she reflects on feminist publishing and how books change lives.
