Flying Scotsman, the world’s most famous steam locomotive celebrates its century this year and on Sunday April 30th it is coming to Bristol Temple Meads.
To mark both events we are putting on three illustrated talks by David Parker. This film is the second of those three films; The Golden Age of Steam – Branching Out. The third film is on Wednesday 19th April; Flying Scotsman with Robson Green
As Dr Beeching’s axe fell on most of Britain’s steam locomotives and many of the branch lines on which they had chugged, some enthusiasts rescued what they could. And some even filmed their heoric exploits. This film showcases some of their work in two lovely locations, the Severn Valley and the Yorkshire Dales and tells the story of how one feature film (The Railway Children) transformed their work.
David Parker will introduce the film (The Golden Age of Steam – Branching Out). The event will start at 7pm. The bar opens at 6.30pm.
