Today, the Matthew plies its trade in Bristol’s beautiful harbour, but who had the idea to build it? How was if funded? Who designed it?
Based on his meticulously researched book, Clive Burlton answers these questions and many more. His talk includes a 30-minute film about how Bristol shipwrights went about building a wooden ship to ‘replicate’ the one sailed by Cabot across the ‘sea of darkness’ in 1497.
