Analysing images of men’s bodies across the linked disciplines of art, medicine, sport and popular culture, Callen reveals how signs of male heterosexual power – and differences of race, class and gender – are visually embodied alongside homoerotic pleasure.
Internationally renowned art expert and writer, as well as regular contributor to BBC1’s Fake or Fortune, Anthea Callen publishes books, articles and exhibition catalogue essays on artists’ materials and techniques, the male body, French Realist, Impressionist and post-Impressionist painting, the art of landscape, and women in the Arts and Crafts movement.
