Free coal mining in the Forest of Dean, salmon poaching on the River Severn, shrimp harvesting in Bridgwater Bay, wassailing on the Somerset Levels, step dancing on Dartmoor, the 'Hobby ‘Os' festival in Cornwall. On Bristol’s door step, the West Country has some of the most breathtaking rural landscapes in Britain, and characters that shaped and moulded those landscapes to match. David Parker has spent many years filming this countryside and these changing traditions. In a preview of a film in production that charts a year in the life of rural England he will introduce of some of these people, their crafts and skills and the customs and traditions they held onto in times of huge upheaval.
