Chris Chapman is a distinguished photographer of rural life, especially on Dartmoor and in the South West. He was born in Wigan, Lancashire in 1952. He began his photographic career at the Newport College of Art in South Wales, and moved to Dartmoor in 1975, since when he has documented aspects of rural life throughout the south west of England. His photographs, especially of the farming community, reflect traditional skills and emphasise the accumulation of knowledge associated with age and customs. He has built up a large photographic archive depicting the culture and character of the region.
Chapman’s photography has been widely recognised and is represented in many international galleries including the V&A, The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and Harvard University. He has published many books, including Dartmoor: The Threatened Wilderness, Foot and Mouth in Devon, and A Photographic Friendship, James Ravilious and Chris Chapman.

Tickets are £12 and available via Eventbrite using the link below or in person at the library during opening hours – cash only. Tickets will also be available outside library opening hours, in the library, on a Wednesday morning 10.30 – 12.30 where card payments will also be accepted.
