What would make a successful academic doctor change his interest from biomedicine to healing?
Bristol-based Professor Paul Dieppe, to the surprise of his colleagues, did just that. After conventionally spending most of his career researching the causes and treatment of osteoarthritis, he switched his interest in the 1990s to healers and healing. His book, Healing and Medicine, is about why he became disillusioned with the materialistic, reductionist science of medicine, and what he found out about healing. He now believes that medicine needs to work with healers and healing and will try to explain why. Paul Dieppe will be in conversation with Dr Elizabeth Thompson from NCIM (National Centre for Integrative Medicine).
