Ethnobotany - the study of the interrelationships and interactions between people and plants as mediated through culture - sits at the intersection between the sacred and the science, acting as a bridge between different disciplines, modalities and knowledges.
Dr Sarah Edwards is currently Plant Records Officer at the University of Oxford Botanic Garden & Arboretum and teaches Ethnobiology and Biological Conservation for the Institute of Human Sciences at Oxford. She will discuss her work as an ethnobotanist, including with First Nations communities in Australia and with London Borough of Richmond’s Arts Service. Her latest book, The Ethnobotanical, highlights plants of cultural significance from across the world.
Tickets are £12 and available via Eventbrite using the link below or in person at the library during opening hours – cash only. Tickets will also be available outside library opening hours, in the library, on a Wednesday morning 10.30 – 12.30 when card payments will also be accepted.
