The three transformative exhibitions 1946 – 1948 of The Crypt Group were a precursor to the founding of the Penwith Society of Arts in 1949 and the rise of the St Ives Modern Movement. The Group included personalities who would later become legends in the art world, including Peter Lanyon, Sven Berlin, John Wells, Wilhemina Barns-Graham and Bryan Wynter. The Crypt Group 1946-1949: Rites of Penwith Passage is Peter Davies’ eighth book on St Ives.
